We strongly value mentorship, and part of our mission is to foster a supportive and inclusive lab environment where trainees can thrive. In addition to scientific and technical training, we are deeply committed to your success and will support you in your next career step, whatever that may be.
See below for open positions, but feel free to inquire regardless of what is currently listed. We value inclusion, motivation, creativity, reliability, and honesty.
The lab is an excellent fit for ambitious individuals eager to tackle tough, fundamental biological questions with a genuine hunger for discovery. We are looking for those who are not afraid of hard work, are self-driven and passionate, and who want to be part of a close community with a shared sense of purpose. We welcome broad interdisciplinary interests, curiosity driven by questions rather than techniques, and a drive to leave your mark and demonstrate what you can do—all while having fun in the process.
If this resonates with you, contact us at emilia.favuzzi@yale.edu. Please provide some information on your background, goals, and research interests. We’ll move the conversation forward from there.
Update for those seeking a short internship: Due to the nature of our research, we are unfortunately not able to accept new high-school and undergraduate interns for internships shorter than one year. Our priority is to ensure that everyone has a meaningful and productive experience in the lab.
Graduate Students
INP and IBIO students interested in a lab rotation are encouraged to reach out.
If you are not an INP or IBIO student (yet) but would like to do your PhD in the Favuzzi lab:
To be a PhD student in the Favuzzi lab, you would first need to be admitted to a Yale PhD program. We can only recruit students from within a Yale PhD program (generally from neuroscience and immunobiology, but those from MCGD or other tracks are welcome).
We plan to accept new students in the Fall of 2026 — there is no need to reach out to Emilia at the application stage (and no advantage as applications are evaluated by an admission committee, not by individual faculty)
Due to the high number of prospective students who apply to the various BBS programs, we are unfortunately unable to meet or engage with all of you at this stage. However, if you are selected for an interview, I will absolutely meet with you and discuss in detail both our current research and potential projects.
Postdocs
We are seeking two postdocs with either a neuroscience or an immunology background.
1) Neuroscientist with expertise in in vivo two-photon imaging
The ideal candidate will have a background in in vivo optical physiology and a Ph.D. in neuroscience, engineering or related disciplines (or will graduate within the next 6 months).
2) Immunologist with expertise in T and/or B cell biology, and proficient in flow cytometry
In addition to scientific and technical training, we will be truly committed to your success and will support you in your next career step.
Yale provides an outstanding environment for conducting successful and rigorous postdoctoral training. The neuroscience community at Yale is highly active and involves interdisciplinary collaborations across multiple academic units including the Departments of Neuroscience, Immunobiology, Molecular, Cellular & Developmental Biology and more. The Wu Tsai Institute provides excellent opportunities for training and cross-disciplinary dialogue.
The position is initially for a period of 1 year, with possible multi-year renewal. Candidates will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
Yale University is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity employer. Yale values diversity among its students, staff, and faculty and strongly encourages applications from women, persons with disabilities, protected veterans, and underrepresented minorities. International applicants are welcome to apply.
Undergraduate students
We have openings for undergraduate students who are interested in and able to commit to more than one year—and ideally multiple years—of research in the lab, culminating in a senior thesis. Due to the nature of our research, shorter commitments are difficult to accommodate.
